Graduated in 1998, with a degree in Desktop Publishing and Graphic Design, from Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo, IA. Interned for OddzOn, a subsidiary of Hasbro Toy Group in Napa, CA for 6 months, before being officially hired as a Packaging Designer. Worked as a Nerf Brand Packaging Designer as well as other small brands under the Hasbro/CAP CANDY umbrella.
Worked with my departments Senior Art Director and mentor, Kirk Grathwol, developing and maintaining the Nerf Brand identity, through new brand looks and logo treatments. Learned to work with Marketing Brand Managers, Product Designers, Engineers as well as Printers in the Far East. All to understand how to best package the product while acquiring a strong understanding of the color separation printing process as well as PMS spot coloring, UV, Gloss, Matte etc. Helped design the Packaging Structure, and write copy for the packaging, as well. Coordinated and directed photo shoots. Was very eager to help lend a hand in any way possible.
Relocated to Hasbro™s Rhode Island headquarters in 2001. Directed and controlled multiple projects simultaneously, both in-house and out. To assure that all goals, timelines and deadlines were met. Attended schedule meetings with Product Designers, Engineers, and Marketers to ensure that all parts of the puzzle were meshing and that ship dates were met. Directed photo shoots. Managed photographers, retouchers illustrators, as well as created illustrations for both product packaging and advertising. Directed interns to ensure that the tight schedule was always held. Travelled to all G.I. Joe trade shows and National Toy Fair's with the Marketing Brand Manager, promoting the brand. Designed and produced G.I. Joe Brand packaging during these years along with other smaller non core brands.
Left Hasbro Toy Group in 2003 to start a small design firm with Hasbro as the main client. Helped produce packaging for brands My Little Pony and Transformers. Moved the business to NYC in 2004 to be closer to my new client Sony Music Group. Branching out into Motion Graphics for music videos and advertising.
Relocated to Los Angeles, CA. in 2014 to be closer to the mountains, deserts and ocean. Balancing life between work, play and rest. Working with start up companies, such as Chiuniverse.
In the summer of 2015, took a role producing Apple branded packaging for Belkin. Took on a variety of graphic responsibility at Belkin. Working as a production designer, Designing Point of sales Graphics, designing and producing iconography, web graphics amongst many other responsibilities. Unfortunately, Belkin was sold to Foxconn at the end of 2018.
As of the beginning of 2019 I will resume freelancing full-time until I find a new staffed position
